here's a post from the 'code' Category:

just realized I’ve been doing this wrong all these years. I thought .dv was native format!

How to make an sd dvd.

In Final Cut:

1. Have the sequence you want to throw onto DVD open and selected.

2. Go to File -> Export -> Using Compressor

*Compressor Launches Automatically*

In Compressor:

1. Select “DVD: Best Quality 90 Minutes 4:3″ (you only need Dolby 2.0

and MPEG 2, you do not need aiff) (also, select 16:9 if its anamorphic)

2. Under the “Batch” menu, select your MPEG-2 entry

3. Confirm your settings under the “Video Format” tab:

Video Format: NTSC

Rate: 29.97

Aspect Ratio: 4:3 (or 16:9)

4. Confirm/Change your settings under the “Quality” tab:

Mode: two pass VBR Best

average bit rate – 6.8

maximum bit rate – 8.0

motion estimation – best

5. Confirm/Change your settings under the “GOP” tab:

GOP structure: ibbp

GOP Size: 7

(note: once you choose 7, your GOP structure will change to “Closed” -

this is correct)

6. Submit the Batch.

In DVD Studio Pro:

1. Handle normally.

OR

Export the movie to Compressor and do 90min High Quality DVD.
