Mike Davis, Builder of Boats and Dreams, Dies (NY Times)

photo New York Times

Ensconced as I am in a lust for Urban Water and all that getting to it entails, this New York Times obituary about Mike Davis, 68, Builder of Boats and Dreams caught my heart:

“They worked in the lobby of the old McGraw-Hill building on West 42nd Street, then loaded their boats - each weighing 300 pounds - on hand-pulled carts and rolled them to the river. Sometimes students from Manhattan schools helped build the boats; sometimes neophyte seafaring families from the neighborhood did.”

Looks like the Open Space Institute and Floating the Apple are way worth checking out for my own similiarish but more devolved pursuits…
