I was a resident at the Nebraska Art Farm last autumn, and took part in the Art Harvest. It felt like a small bread and puppets, with a dilapidated victorian house full of artists, tents and a vw camper full of visitors, guitar and cooking and bonfires and violin and a melted sneaker and a breathing house and 2 nights and days of lovely people and a magical time.

Now, this is not the art harvest, but an evening of falling chemical stars sounds just as magical, so if you can do the road trip, do the road trip.

“On the eve of the August new moon, in challenge to Copernican logic, the center of the universe is relocating on Art Farm with the luminous performance of Romanian artist, Miruna Dragan, artist-in-residence at Art Farm. With 1000 chemical lights and intoxicating confidence, she will attempt to achieve a cosmic feat, never before imagined or experienced, of making light, rain. Its fireflies, wishing upon stars, NASA strength engineering and TinkerBell magic all rolled into one stellar event. Take a break from your daily life of standard linearity and thrill to an evening in the phosphorescence of Miruna’s celestial euphoria.

Conjugating with Miruna’s performance installation will be ambient stardust melodies of manipulated field recordings by Art Farm intern and king of noise, Kurt Peterson. Cynthia Hartling, Art Farm’s other current resident from New York, will open her studio, welcoming all visitors to see her paintings in progress.

It all starts at 7:30 (if you want to watch the lights rain into their final position) on Thursday, July 31 in Art Farm’s Levitation Performance Space. If it really rains, the event is postponed to Sunday, August 3 - same time, same place.

As usual, nutritional replenishments of low sodium saltines and tap water are always available at the snack table.
