So, here are some of the pages coming out of my residency at Kala so far. The plan is a printed book based on the greviously uncelebrated
theysaysmall, a fiction of dubious merit, though I must admit I think the project is stronger as a few selected prints. I’ve been printing some of the text and images on old IBM paper, and then will use silk screen to layer some non-digital imagery. The hope is that it will be nice to look at even if you don’t feel like reading it.
I must admit I am a bit embarassed by the hokeyness of it all. Everyone else here is making
Art with a capital
A, and they’re too polite to call a spade a spade. One guy said it was…
post… modern.
I raised my eyebrows and said,
You mean ‘sci-fi’?
Yeah.
Anyway, I’ll get over my insecurities about making sci-fi by making it look like art. I mean, check out
this page. I got that kicking ghost by printing a second version on this crappy inkjet thats totally on the fritz and out of ink. I only pulled off like 4 pages before the things gave up its own ghost.
Here’s a more straightforward page, in need of some silk-screening.
I think I can best use this time to try to work out how theysaysmall can be best shown, and put a few good prints out for arts sake.
