As most of you know, I
built a 14 foot tree out of stacks of laminated plywood this Winter, planted it outside the RISD museum for the Spring, and then
chopped it down and
milled it back into
a sheet of plywood. Last week, I completed its tortured cycle from tree to wood to paper by returning that sheet of plywood to Home Depot in exchange for a
receipt.

I didn’t think it would work.

Yeah, neither did I. After a month plus sitting in the rain, it was warped as shit. Some pointed dowels were even sticking out of it like a compound fracture.
I called Serena after I was done and she ran down to buy it back.September 23rd, 2007 at 10:02 am
I stumbled on this site by happy accident - what an incredibly fantastic piece that is - the tree and the resulting plywood. Very thought provoking and so beautiful structurally - I wonder what the home depot thought when you returned it? i’m glad your friend retrieved it, the plywood itself is stunning. I’ll be watching this site to see if you do anything else, I think your work is great - Christy in Canada
