WPA 2010. Christopher Robbins. Bringing back the WPA (Work Projects Administration), because the US Government hasn't.
Frustrated by the US government's approach to the economic recovery, I began to open WPA offices in the USA. Under the auspices of the historic USA Work Program - a program that helped get us out of the Great Depression, these D.I.Y. WPA offices employed local residents to construct small-scale public works projects chosen by their own community, in the hopes that the government would follow suit.
We opened two offices - one in the rural hamlet of Wassaic, New York, and the other in the urban center of Jamaica, Queens - and hired local people as WPA workers to complete unauthorized but needed public works in their own neighborhood, all under the auspices of the WPA.
The program was funded entirely by individual donations.
Special thanks to Chashama, Not An Alternative, The Wassaic Project and our numerous other partners and supporters, without who this never would have been possible
